Jay County Jr.-Sr. High School, located in Portland, Indiana, is more than just a school—it is the educational heart of Jay County, built on a rich tradition of community spirit. Serving students from grades 7 through 12, JCHS prides itself in fostering a supportive and challenging environment where every student is encouraged to achieve their fullest potential.
The history of Jay County High School is defined by a spirit of collaboration. Established in 1975 through the consolidation of several smaller high schools—including Portland, Dunkirk, Pennville, Redkey, and Bloomfield—our school represents the unified commitment to outstanding public education. We proudly carry on the legacies of these foundational communities as the Jay County Patriots.
Today, JCHS offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for college, career, and citizenship. Beyond rigorous academics, our students shine in our celebrated Jay County Patriot Band Program. This program is a cornerstone of our cultural life, featuring the Marching Patriots, whose dynamic performances are a source of immense community pride at football games, parades, and Central Indiana Track Show Association competitions. Students also develop musical excellence and discipline through participation in concert band, jazz ensemble, winter guard, indoor percussion and other various ensembles.
